What is SEO?-A Beginners Guide to SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
If you are one of the millions of webmasters or website owners who want to receive a regular inflow of visitors or readers, you have certainly read about SEO. When implemented properly, these SEO techniques can provide a multitude of benefits to your website from search engine ranking, traffic inflow, up to sales and revenues for the e-commerce websites.
A brief background on SEO
Search Engine Optimization commonly known as SEO is the process of marketing or promoting a particular website for it to rank in various search engines. Alternately, SEO is also used as a blanket term for all the tactics and methods employed for such purpose. If you are not familiar with search engines, these are the websites where internet users commonly perform their information queries or searches. Among the most popular examples include Google, Yahoo, Bing, MSN, AOL, etc. When a person makes a search on these websites, these search engines will produce a long list of results which are sorted according to their rank. So, if you’re a website owner, you would certainly want to be on that number one spot or as close to it as possible, because those on the top are receiving a large chunk of traffic or visitors. This is referred to as “organic” traffic. This is where SEO comes in, the promotion of a website to reach that number 1 spot.
Why is SEO essential or beneficial for your website?
Some website owners might think that SEO is not really that essential because their websites are doing well even without implementing certain SEO techniques. But the truth is; they are actually making use of SEO without actually knowing it. As mentioned above, the ultimate goal of SEO and ranking is for your website to gain traffic coming from the search engine. When your website has traffic, you could achieve all your other goals like becoming popular online, having a list of potential customers for your product, to earn from affiliate marketing, CPC or CPM advertising, etc.
SEO is also one of the best tools you can use for competing. With effective SEO, you could outrank almost any of your competitors no matter how big their company is. SEO provides a level playing field when it comes to sales and marketing competition. Additionally, the use of SEO as a promoting technique for your website is more cost-effective compared to the traditional types of promotion like advertising your website in the television, radio, or print media.
The most common techniques in SEO
Search engine optimization is not limited to a single method or technique. There are several SEO methods a website owner can implement for his or her website to rank. To maximize its effectiveness, a combination of two or more techniques is often implemented. Among the most common techniques include keyword research and analysis, link building, SEO content creation, social media marketing, on-page optimization, article marketing, directory submission, guest blogging, etc. These techniques are all extensive, and require other blog-posts to explain, so stay tuned!
The importance of natural or white hat SEO
All the techniques mentioned above can be implemented in two ways; the white hat or natural method, and the black hat or automated method. Because of recent changes in various search engines particularly on Google, the white hat or natural SEO techniques are now considered the best and most effective. Compared to the black hat method which uses automated tools which often involve spamming to do much of the SEO tasks, this is now very detrimental to seo, on the other-hand the white hat method ensures a more natural way of implementing SEO tactics resulting to a better internet experience for people.
